Compassion fatigue is a form of burnout that has been receiving some attention lately. In this interview, Mari A. Ricker, MD, will describe both physician burnout and compassion fatigue and help listeners identify each. Ricker, who is the Director of Integrative Medicine in Residency at the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine, will also provide some practical information about how to address compassion fatigue.

About the Expert
Mari Ricker, MD, FAAFP, Dipl. ABOIM, graduated from the University of Virginia with a bachelor's degree in biology and from the University of Arizona with her degree in medicine. She completed her family medicine residency at Oregon Health and Science University, in Portland, Oregon. After residency, Ricker served as Chief Resident and Faculty Development Fellow. During this fellowship year, Ricker also competed the Fellowship in Integrative Medicine though the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine. She is a professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of Arizona, College of Medicine, Tucson, and the director for the Integrative Medicine in Residency Program at the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine. Ricker collaborated on the development of the Health Care Professional Wellbeing Course through the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine.
